In 2008 Union
Gospel Mission served 107,946 meals to the homeless
and needy in Portland. Not only do those in need receive
a meal, they are part of Christian ministry that happens
in the nightly chapel service and dinner. Union Gospel Mission
is a place where people in need can get something to eat,
clothing, and referrals to other agencies that may offer
further assistance.
If you
were to drive over the Burnside Bridge into downtown on
a weekday morning at 8:30 am you would see a line
of people wrapping around the corner at Third Ave., The
people are waiting in line for a sack lunch from Union Gospel
Mission. Union Gospel Mission serves as many as 160 sack
lunches a day!
